205 pg black and white OGN due out in May

The subject of the graphic novel, Stagger Lee, has also been the subject of many songs over the years, recorded by artists ranging from Lloyd Price (in 1959) to Wilson Pickett and the Grateful Dead.

The story of the songs and the upcoming graphic novel all deal with a St. Louis murder, committed on Christmas Eve 1895, where Lee Sheldon (aka “Stag” or “Stagger Lee”) shot Billy Lyons. The men were friends who had been drinking, and, depending on the source, began to argue over politics or gambling. Central to many versions of the story is the involvement of Lee’s hat – which Lyons reportedly took. When he refused to give it back, Lee shot him.
